Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other metals, usually copper. Silver jewelry marked with a 925 is sterling silver jewelry that has been certified to contain 92.5% silver content. Sterling silver is harder than silver and is more suitable. The metal will not rust or perish, plus if you look after your jewelry it will look great well into the future!

What makes sterling silver tarnish?
The most important thing in avoiding silver tarnish is understanding what causes it. Sterling silver reacts with sulfates in the air and in many common materials that may be near your jewelry items. Tarnish on pure silver is actually the compound silver sulfide, which develops when the precious metal reacts with oxygen and sulfur-containing gasses present in the air. All this to say is tarnishing is normal but not inevitable. There are tips and tricks to keep you jewelry looking healthy and clean!

When owning sterling silver jewelry, it is best to keep them stored in a jewelry box, or a cloth pouch. When making a purchase i provide a jewelry pouch and a silver polishing cloth. This will help keep your jewelry well stored, clean, and shiny!

Especially if we have a favorite piece we wear daily! Most days, us girlies add hair spray, perfume or even our natural oils can create build up. Here are the steps you can take to give your jewelry a nice clean bath 🫧

Steps to clean your silver at home:
- Boil some hot water
- Get a nice glass bowl
- A piece of tin foil, you’re going to place in the bowl.
- Place your jewelry in the bowl
- Add a good amount of baking soda on top of jewelry
- Pour the boiling water in the bowl, okay to mix it a little
- Let it sit for about 5-10 mins
- Dry off, and ta da! Clean jewelry!🫧
